Sanitary Sewer Utility operations provide for the collection and pumping of sanitary sewage through a system of mains and lift stations. Sewage is treated by the Metropolitan Council - Environmental Services. The City has 105.51 miles of sanitary sewer (ranging in size from 8-inches to 24-inches in diameter) and 8,774 service connections. Included in this division's responsibilities is the routine preventative maintenance of the City's collection system and its appurtenances, monitoring of inflow and infiltration, televised inspection of the interiors of sanitary mains and customer service such as providing sewer locations. Sanitary Sewer Utilities Goals:
Root saw approximately 15-miles of main every year on a continuous, rotating basis.
Maintain routine line cleaning of known trouble spots, as well as regular routine cleaning to remove grit, grease and roots.
Monitor inflow and infiltration levels and take necessary action to reduce or eliminate.
Provide timely locating services as per
Gopher State One Call
Televise all project areas and trouble spots as identified by City staff and establish repairs and/or repair projects from information obtained.
Work together with the Engineering Division in reconstruction areas to inspect new installations as well as repairs on mains and services.
Sanitary Sewer Utility facilities handles the operation and maintenance of the City's 10 wastewater lift stations, which include buildings, equipment and property.
Monitor inflow and pump efficiency.
Perform routine and emergency lift station maintenance.
Perform preventative maintenance and emergency repairs of electrical controls, telemetry system and building and grounds.
