Is your business a “critical industry”?
On March 25, Governor Walz issued Executive Order 20-20, directing Minnesotans to limit movements outside of their homes from March 27 at 11:59 p.m. to April 10 at 5:00 p.m. Exemptions are provided for critical industries. DEED Emergency Loan Program
DEED is creating a Small Business Emergency Loan Program to make loans of between $2,500 and $35,000 for qualifying small businesses. The loans will be 50-percent forgivable and offered at a 0 percent interest rate.

Corona Virus-Related Paid Leave for Works and Business Tax Credits
The U.S. Treasury Department, Internal Revenue Service, and the U.S. Department of Labor announced in a March 20 news release that small and midsize employers can soon begin taking advantage of two new refundable payroll tax credits, designed to immediately and fully reimburse them, dollar-for-dollar, for the cost of providing coronavirus-related leave to their employees. The Minnesota Unemployment Insurance Program developed the “Shared Work” initiative to help employers avoid laying off employees during an economic downturn, such as the one caused by the spread of COVID-19. Businesses can apply for select employees working reduced hours to receive partial unemployment insurance benefits to offset a portion of their lost income. More information and the application can be found on the Minnesota Unemployment Insurance website.
Sales Tax Grace Period
Restaurants, bars and other hospitality businesses impacted by the temporary closure order have a 30-day grace period in paying sales and use tax, with no penalties or interest. Affected businesses with a monthly Sales and Use Tax payment due March 20, 2020 will have until April 20 to make that payment. These customers should still file their return by March 20. Assistance for Artists
Springboard for the Arts sponsors a Personal Emergency Relief Fund that provides Minnesotan artists grants of up to $500 to compensate for income lost due to canceled gigs or events. More information and the application can be found on Springboard for the Arts’ website.
