On Thursday, December 14, 2017, officers from the Brooklyn Center Police Department will participate in "Shop with a Cop," which is a joint effort between the police department and Walmart located at 1200 Shingle Creek Crossing Brooklyn Center, MN and will take place from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
This event will involve Brooklyn Center officers joining local youth on a shopping spree at Walmart. There will be 20 underprivileged students from Brooklyn Center elementary schools selected by school officials. Each student will be paired with a uniformed officer and given $100 to buy holiday gifts for their family. After all of the shopping is done, the officers and kids with have dinner and wrap all of the newly purchased gifts together. Money for this event was made available through a grant from the Walmart Foundation. The Brooklyn Center Police Department is proud of this event as it provides holiday gifts for families that might otherwise go without. This effort is part of the department’s ongoing efforts to positively interact with the community it serves.
